‘Sea Lions’ is one of the first tracks taken from Samia’s upcoming sophomore album. Musically, it’s a tender, gentle track that allows her isolated voice to sit delicately above a restrained, downtempo accompaniment. Halfway through, the track bursts into life via a gritty bass synth and tight, groovy drums. It allows the listener time to indulge in the atmospheric instrumental, before returning to those addictively catchy melodies. She explains that the track is about being “too angry to try and work it out but too sad to let it go. Remembering the good times, finding old voicemails and trying to decide where it went wrong on a loop.” Her second album, Honey, drops on January 27th, 2023.
